What Type of Training
Does an Orthodontist Have? Becoming an orthodontist requires a lot of schooling, and our Overland Park Orthodontist, Dr. Joe Moon did it all! After graduating high school, the training requirements are as follows:
- Bachelor’s Degree (four years)
- Complete doctorate at dental school (four years)
- Specialty training at an orthodontic residency program (two to three years)
This additional specialty training includes classroom studies, as well as racking up extensive clinical experience. Once an orthodontist has completed their residency program, they must then successfully pass their qualifying exams to become a Certified Specialist in Orthodontics.
