Sports Safety for Kids Mouths & Dental Emergencies

By | Orthodontics | No Comments

In our years of offering braces in Overland Park and Olathe, we’ve seen our fair share of cut lips and broken hardware thanks to patients getting hit in the face with a ball or an elbow during a game when they weren’t wearing a mouthguard. Yet, it’s not just kids with braces who need to protect their teeth when playing sports. While braces certainly add to the risk of injury, even children (and adults!) wearing Invisalign, retainers, or nothing at all should be taking precautions. Avoiding tooth and mouth injuries in children while playing sports can be as simple as using protective gear like a mouthguard.

Why Does My Orthodontist Want to Remove a Healthy Tooth?

By | Orthodontics | No Comments

When patients visit my Olathe and Overland Park orthodontic offices, they’re often under the misconception that healthy teeth should never be removed to prepare for orthodontic treatment. Unfortunately, that’s not always something we can avoid. While I do everything I can to stick with non-extraction treatment plans, in certain cases, removing permanent teeth is necessary to help patients achieve the healthiest, most esthetic, and most stable results.

We know that can be a little scary but at Moon Orthodontics we always conduct a thorough examination prior to kicking off treatment and only extract teeth as a last resort or as an alternative to surgery. There are several issues that could result in the need for tooth extraction before braces or Invisalign. Read More

By | Orthodontics | No Comments

As an orthodontist in Olathe and Overland Park, one of the most common questions I hear is, “How long will I have to wear braces?” Since orthodontics isn’t a one-size-fits-all deal and everyone’s mouths are unique, it will vary from patient to patient. Based on a national survey, it takes an average of 23 months to complete orthodontic treatment.. Some lucky patients get in and out in as little as six months and others can require treatment for three years. While we can’t give you an exact length of time, we can talk about factors that influence the duration of your braces or Invisalign treatment.
